Reconstituted collagen fibers are promising candidates for tendon and ligament tissue regeneration. Yet, the mechanical behavior and their interplay as specific microenvironment for incorporated cells is still insufficiently understood. Previous tests indicate an outstanding biocompatibility. We show mechanical properties of non-crosslinked and by high-energy electron irradiation crosslinked collagen type I fibers.
